our story

Over three decades ago, DC’s LGBTQ+ and allied tennis enthusiasts came together to establish a nonprofit charity tennis tournament called the Capital Classic Tennis Tournament. The Cap Classic, as the tournament has come to be known, has grown over the years and is now one of the biggest tennis tournaments on the Gay and Lesbian Tennis Association (GLTA) World Tour.

This event is an important opportunity for the LGBTQ+ community to come together to celebrate the diversity of tennis, grow the sport further, and raise money for very worthy LGBTQ+ charities in the DC region. All proceeds go to charity and to support future years of the tournament. Over the three decades the tournament has existed, it has raised over $250,000 to local LGBTQ+ charities.

Thanks to all who attended the 2024 Capital Classic. We look forward to welcoming you all back next year. No matter who you are, you are welcome here!
